THE STATEMENT OF THE WARSAW CITY COUNCIL
3.04.2008, on the situation in Tibet
The Warsaw City Council, on behalf of the citizens of the Capital, moved by the tragedy of Tibet, is emphatically protesting against the violation of human rights by the Chinese government, and especially against the cruel pacification of peaceful and independent demonstrations of the Tibetan people.
We appeal to the Chinese government to give up violence and start a dialogue with the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, H.H. Dalai Lama.
Warsaw, “the non-subjugated city”, heavily experienced by history, the capital of the country that was for years erased from the map of the world, has both a special right and an obligation to carry the light of freedom to the oppressed people.
The Warsaw City Council is asking the President of Warsaw to give all necessary help to the Tibetan emigrants staying in Warsaw, and to support community initiatives for the protection of human rights in Tibet.
The Warsaw City Council is inviting H.H. the Dalai Lama to the Capital, with the hope that He will also agree to honour the local self-government with a speech on the situation in Tibet.
